MASTERING DIY POPCORNS
Hello!! Hope you are doing great!
About 8 years ago I learned that the butter in the microwave popcorns has so much trans fat.. and it is very bad for your body.. so I look for a better alternatives for snacks in general..
whether they have artificial flavors or they have cholesterol or they also have trans fat.. so soon later found that you could make your own snacks with the Whirley Pop Maker but It was not available in stores.. and only a person in Toronto was importing them as being the "official provider of this wonderful artefactus" So I meet with the person in his house, where he had theme and back then I paid about $50 dls.. Now thankfully you can find them in the market very easily here is the link: Whirley Pop and now you will only pay $29 CAD dls + tax.
Not only having the benefit of not consuming trans fat.. but also the fact that you can manage how much oil you want to use and what to put in .. it's AWESOME!!
So this is how mine looks like after 8 years.. They are very durable.. but you gotta take good care of them since they are made with very thin aluminium. So first let me give you some tips on how to care for the Whirley Pop:
1. Never washed with cold water when warm or hot.
2. Always use middle heat or a bit higher but NEVER HI HEAT.
3. Use baking soda and lime or vinegar to clean it sometimes, to keep it like NEW đ!
Oky so let's start with the:
đżđżđœBasic Movie Theater Flavour:
You will need:
-Kernel for popcorns (if you can find the organic GMO free, even better)
-Coconut oil
-Salt
-Whirley Pop
Bring the kernel corn in the Whirley and add for about half cup of corn add 1 big spoon of coconut oil. Don't add the salt at this point. Since every stove is very different I can only tell you that my stove has 8 levels of heat including low to high, and I use the level 5 or 6.
at this point you don't need to spin the Whirley. When you hear the popcorns starting to pop that is when you start the action.. Then when they almost stop popping empty quickly and add salt.. And you have your popcorns ready!
đżđżđŠCaramel Ice Cream Shoppe Flavour:
You will use the same ingredients as above but add sugar.
So in this case it is a bit different.. use low or number 2 for heat in stove while cooking them. And don't change that temperature.. Yes.. it will take longer but the sugar needs to be in low heat.. So now add your coconut oil, kernels and for a half cup of kernels use 2 spoons of sugar. Follow the past steps and then when they are ready out.. add a bit of salt.
đżđżđČđœMexican Popcorn Flavour:
If you know a Mexican friend you can confirm that in Mexico almost all movie theaters will offer jalapeños for your popcorns or spicy salsa. I love it!!đ¶ .. You do the basic movie theater popcorn recipe and then when they are done is what you need to add:
-Jalapeño slices
-Jalapeño vinegar
-Lime
-Valentina salsa (optional)
đżđżđWalnut Popcorn Flavour:
When I just bought the Whirley Pop.. I was trying to make the popcorns in many ways and trying to identify flavours of popcorns that I purchased in different places.. So one day I try some popcorns that I really loved and try to identify the flavour.. and this was like toasted walnut with coconut oil. So I found the walnut oil in the whole food store in Toronto in the Kensington Market and I try to mix the coconut oil and the walnut and make the popcorns as usual.. and.. absolutely LOVE THEM!! although the oil bottle is very expensive, I believe about $14 dls.. but it is delicious.. So if you want to give it a try .. find the walnut oil in your whole foods market and let me know what do you think about the flavour!đ
